8th Grade - Get ready to use your power tools!
Wrench set? Check. Screwdriver? Check. Hammer? Check? Morality? Huh?
We may rarely think of them, but God often gives us a tool box full of intangible things to carry with us throughout our lives. Just as you wouldn't think of driving without spare, fixing something without a hammer, or going shopping without a cell phone (yes, times have changed), you don't want to go through life without God's tool box. With graduation and high schools coming in the next year, this class focuses on instructing eighth graders about the tools that they will carry with them throughout high school, as well as the rest of their lives.
What kind of tools are we talking about? First, students will learn how to use God himself in the Holy Spirit, the first and most powerful tool. Next, students will learn how morality is a great compass that God gives us to navigate our lives. The rest of the year focuses on tools related to morality, such as reverence, humility, respect for authority, value for life, sexuality, truth, and justice. Use these well, and happiness will follow. Use these poorly, and it will be life trying to fix a pencil with a sledgehammer. So clean out that tool box, sharpen those tools, and be ready to learn to use the greatest toolbox ever provided to us in life!

7th Grade- Show Me The Way!
Just like the old song from Styx, we are longing for God to "Show us the Way". Take that, add the Truth and the Life, and it all adds up to this year's seventh grade religion class. In seventh grade, students will study Jesus Christ, learning about his life and how is actions 2,000 years ago affect our lives today. Students will begin with a history and geography lesson on life in 1st Century Palestine, and will learn the culture and norms of Jesus' time. As they continue, they will study the "role players" around Jesus such as Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist, and the Apostles. Finally, we will take a deeper look at Jesus' miracles, bold teachings, and parables, before re-tracing his steps up Calvary hill to understand his death and resurrection. Through it all, students will learn more than they ever dreamed to know about Jesus. However, they will also learn to have their own relationship with Jesus themselves, which it really is all about anyway. So add a cup of way, a dash of truth, and a pinch of life, and cook them together for seventh grade religion this year.

6th Grade-Take your place in the story...
How did we begin? Can we believe in evolution? What was the deal with Moses and that Red Sea thing? Sixth graders have plenty of questions, and the answer to many of life's questions can be found by breaking open the greatest story ever told, the Bible. Sixth grade religion classes are designed to immerse all students in the Old Testament stories of the Bible, beginning with the creation of the world in Genesis. Students will learn the sacred stories that defined the Ancient Jewish people, and will be reminded throughout that the stories are not just ancient tales from thousands of years ago, but stories of their own faith that ring true today. Through it all, students are challenged to take their place in the greatest story ever told by following God's will, for God wants to make another great Bible story out of all of us!
